COLUMBIANA – Birmingham resident Maurice Tyeshon Horn, 42, has been charged with second degree assault and second degree burglary. 

Currently being held on a bond of $450,000, Horn was initially arrested on Oct. 19 at 3 p.m., after allegedly breaking into the home of one La Morris Strickland with the intent to commit theft.

Subsequently, Horn is said to have struck a police deputy who was attempting to arrest him. Horn purportedly hit the deputy with a close-handed strike, causing minor visible injuries to the policeman’s face. 

Horn was arrested and booked into Shelby County Jail in Columbiana shortly afterwards. 

Horn’s charges break down as follows:

-Assault second degree at $300,000

-Burglary second degree at $150,000

In most circumstances, an assault on an officer constitutes a felony charge and can result in up to 10 years of jail time and a $15,000 fine.

A second degree burglary is also a felony, and is given when someone attempts to enter a building and is in possession of a deadly weapon, explosive or causes injury to another person. Individuals convicted of a second degree burglary can face up to 20 years jail time and be fined up to $30,000.

The date of Horn’s hearing is Thursday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. in Courtroom 2E. The case will be overseen by District Judge W. Casey Duncan.
